Mayor Orders Flags at Half Staff in Memory of Families Loss to COVID-19

COVID-19 LOSS OF LIFE MEMORIAL & FLAG LOWERING PROCLAMATION NUMBER 2021-01

On Tuesday March, 16, Mayor Leroy J. Sullivan ordered flags to half staff in memory of the families loss to COVID-19 during the past year. During his weekly "Making Progress with Mayor Sullivan" Facebook Live show, the Mayor asked for reflection while he read the special proclamation to honor the memory of those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, pursuant to the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act, the Governor declared a public health emergency on March 11, 2020 in Proclamation Number 25 JBE 2020 in response to the threat posed by COVID-19; and

WHEREAS, since that time over 9,000 deaths have occurred in the State of Louisiana and over 150 of those occurred in the Parish of Ascension; and

WHEREAS, the family members of those who were lost will not be forgotten due the plight of their pain, suffering, and despair; and

WHEREAS, it is of major importance that we continue to commit ourselves to take precautions to prevent further deaths from occurring due to COVID-19; and

THEREFORE, I Mayor Leroy J. Sullivan, Sr. of the City of Donaldsonville, now call upon all citizens of the City of Donaldsonville and upon all patriotic, civic, and educational organizations to observe the day of March 16, 2021, in recognition of the loss of lives by lowering American flags on all buildings to half-staff.

I respectfully encourage all citizens of the City of Donaldsonville to remember and honor our faithful and dutiful family members for their invaluable love and service to our families and our community and its citizens.

NOW THEREFORE, I, LEROY J. SULLIVAN, SR, Mayor of the City of  Donaldsonville, by the authority vested in me by the Ordinances of the City of Donaldsonville, and any other acts which may prevail, do hereby order and direct the provisions as outlined herein in the City of Donaldsonville.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand officially and caused to be affixed the Seal of the City of Donaldsonville, on this 16th day of March, 2021.

He then closed with a moment of silent reflection and prayer for the departed souls, then joined members of the City Council, the Donaldsonville Fire Department and Pastor Andre Oatis from Calvary Outreach Tabernacle in Donaldsonville for the flag lowering ceremony.
