Mayor's Youth Advisory Council

The mission of Mayor Youth Advisory Council is to represent and advocate on behalf of the youth in the City of Donaldsonville. The group of sixteen (16) students will be appointed by the mayor or his designee (8 from ACHS and 8 from DHS).

The student’s chosen must:
• Possess solid communications skills,
• Work well with others in a collaborative manner,
• Think holistically to identify problems, and
• Be willing to actively search for and work toward solutions
• Have at least a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale

To accomplish their goals, they will have access to the leaders in Donaldsonville and Ascension Parish and will work actively with them to create their shared vision of a Donaldsonville that values its youth. The selected student leaders will also be charged with planning, organizing and implementing a youth-led service learning projects.

To become a member, the student must be an incoming 10th or 11th grader attending a high school located in Donaldsonville, LA or currently residing in Donaldsonville but attending a school outside of the city. The student must be recommended by a principal, school counselor, teacher or a current MYAC member with the approval of the administration of the school.

MYAC will serve a two – three year term from August to June. Meetings are held monthly on the first Saturday and attendance at each meeting is required.

The MYAC will be governed by policies and procedures established and approved by the Mayor and his designee in conjunction with Robert’s Rules of Order.
