Leroy J. Sullivan, Sr. is the son of the late Leola Byas Sullivan and the late Leonard Sullivan Sr. He is one of eight children. He is a 1975 graduate of Donaldsonville High School.
Mayor Sullivan is the husband of Cathy Victor Sullivan. He is the father of five children: Latonya, Leroy, Jr., Nyla, Tre’ and Trent and the proud grandfather of six grandchildren. He is also the stepfather of Curtis, Kierra and Jaden.
Mayor Sullivan has served three terms on the City Council for the City of Donaldsonville from 1993-2004. He is currently serving his fourth term as Mayor of the City of Donaldsonville.
He is a lifelong member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he has dutifully served as a deacon. Mayor Sullivan acknowledged that God has greater works for him and accepted his call into the ministry. He is a graduate of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary through First Baptist Church in Gonzales, where he has learned and gained deeper knowledge of the Word of God. Mayor Sullivan’s hunger to learn more about the Word of God, led him to enroll at Liberty Home Bible Institute to further his study. In June of 2017, he completed his studies at Liberty Home Bible Institute and gained a deeper knowledge of the Old Testament, New Testament and Theology.
Mayor Sullivan is a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Trustee Board, where he serves as the Moderator. Mayor Sullivan also serves as the Superintendent of the Sunday School Department, and he teaches the Adult Sunday School class.
During his twenty-six years of employment at CF Industries, he served as supervisor for sixteen years. Furthermore, he was the first African-American employee of CF Industries ever promoted to the title of supervisor.
Mayor Sullivan has held the title of Worship Master of the Hiram Lodge #12 Free and Accepted Masons. At one point, he held the title of the youngest Worship Master in the State of Louisiana. He has also held the titles of Commissioner with the Lafourche Basin and Levee District, Commissioner of the Louisiana Airport Authority, Commissioner with the Louisiana Uniform Construction Code and a member of the Donaldsonville Rotary Club.
