Community Development

The Community Development Department provides resources to enhance community programs, access to services, including governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and professional and civic associations that deliver services to improve the citizens of the City of Donaldsonville. Programs include housing assistance, after school and enrichment programs, mentoring, workforce programs (job readiness & skills training), counseling services, wellness and recreational activities (for all ages), community food and supply donations, utility assistance, emergency response and rescue assistance, arts, culture, and historic preservation programs, and others as are required to meet community needs. The Community Development Department participates in active strategic planning to address community areas of need and creates “pathways” for community assistance and writes grants in order to solicit funds and programs to benefit the citizens of the City of Donaldsonville. The Department works in close partnership with FEMA, USDA, the Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana Office of Community Development, the Office of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, the Louisiana Housing Authority, the Office of Child and Family Services, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Ascension Parish School Board, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Ascension Parish Office of Mental Health, and River Parishes Community College. The Donaldsonville FIRST Program is the anchor program for Community Development and houses a “community hub” at the Lemann Memorial and Municipal Center at 1100 Clay Street in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
