Hurricane IDA 11AM Update

• Hurricane Ida has emerged into the Gulf of Mexico and will continue northwest with strengthening expected as it moves into the central Gulf of Mexico with winds up to 130 MPH on Saturday and is anticipated to make landfall at 6pm south of Morgan City as a CAT 4 on tomorrow; Sunday.

• There is high confidence with the forecast track and intensity of this system. Donaldsonville WILL experience impacts. The eye-wall will pass west of Donaldsonville at 11pm tomorrow. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS STORM LIGHTLY.

• We are expecting sustained hurricane force winds of up to 90 miles per hour and possibly gusts greater than 110mph.

• With these type of winds, it is advised that you seek shelter with family and friends if you are concerned about your home.

• Final preparations should be rushed to completion today as tropical storm force conditions are possible along the coast beginning as early as late tonight and spreading inland early Sunday morning.

• Sandbags continue to be available at the following locations on the West Bank:

• DPW-West Barn, 750 Church St, Donaldsonville 

• A-Bend Park 

• Lemannville Park 

• St. Jude Subdivision 

• Brusly McCall Fire Station (La 1) 

• Modest Park 

There is a Senior Citizen and Disabled Citizens Pickup ONLY at 

• DPW - WEST, 2171 D THIBAUT DR.

• Ascension Parish residents ONLY 

• Saturday August 28 from 10 am to 4 pm 

• Limited to 30 sandbags per trip. 

• Bags will be loaded into your vehicle

We anticipate information regarding “Shelter of last resort locations” in Ascension Parish and in Donaldsonville to be announced today at 1pm.

If opened, you will need to bring your medicines, bedding (pillows / blankets),  toiletries, and snacks.

COVID restrictions will be in place including masking and social distancing. 

Current Situation of Major Service Providers in Donaldsonville:

• Fuel stations remain opened and fuel continues to be available in the Donaldsonville area.

• Wal Greens and CVS will both close today at 3pm, so now is the time to get all prescriptions.

• Viallon’s is closed on the weekends as they normally are but they contacted their clients.

• Wal Mart will continue will close today at 12noon and will be closed tomorrow.

• Butcher Boy reports they will continue to provide service from 6am-9pm unless otherwise noted both today.

• Midway Grocery will maintain normal hours today and will hope tomorrow if able for normal business hours. American Spring Water has ample supply of water if needed. Please contact Midway Grocery today.

• Kockes continues to be open extended hours to assist our citizens and will remain open as long as needed until they are no longer able to provide service.

• Ace Hardware will remain normal hours until 3pm today and may open tomorrow if able. Emergency plumbing services will remain available throughout the storm.

You have likely heard about a mandatory evacuation for Lafourche and Assumption Parishes and many others. While we are aware that you have family and friends and perhaps properties in those areas, please do your best to welcome our neighbors. 

At this time, we are NOT under a mandatory or voluntary evacuation order. If that should occur, we will send out an emergency early alert through everbridge. To get registered for Everbridge go to our website at Donaldsonville-la.gov to sign up for this free app.

Garbage pickup will run as normally scheduled today and changes to future schedules will be announced as we have them. If you have Monday pickup, it is NOT anticipated that Norma route will run.
