Good morning citizens of Donaldsonville and surrounding areas,

Yesterday, was yet another busy day clearing downed trees and opening as many streets as possible. We are unable to remove trees with powerlines embedded. Once the lines are removed, we will clear the debris. Our crews and I worked tirelessly to respond to each of the work orders we have received. I want to personally thank you for the kind words of appreciation you extended to me and our staff today as we have battled incredible elements to get us one step closer to full recovery.

We were fortunate to have more fuel stations open in Donaldsonville. While the lines have been long, we certainly thank you all for your patience and cooperation throughout the process. We anticipate more fuel stations opening in the next day or two.

Entergy has reported to me that there is significant damage to the lines feeding parts of our community from St. James and Iberville Parishes. As soon as the damage is reviewed and repaired, restoration will occur more quickly in the community. While we have no estimate on full restoration, we are hopeful to get more specific timelines in the next couple of days.

Mobile connectivity has improved and while not completely restored, I have been assured that our providers are working diligently to correct the issues. This also applies to internet and television services.

We have received a number of calls regarding tarps, ice, and other essentials to assist you. We have been told that ample amounts of tarps will arrive shortly, and the plan for distribution is being finalized now. Please continue to follow our Facebook pages and website for these updates.

Republic Waste has also reported that they will resume normal garbage pickup schedules on Thursday. Ascension Parish has also reported guidelines for debris removal. Please see the City’s Facebook page for instructions on how to properly separate debris and how to position it at the roadside.

Ascension Parish Schools has announced closure through Friday at least. Further information will be provided regarding school opening for next week. You will also continue to be informed by your school. We have also shared the news notice on our City’s Facebook page.

I want to take this time to thank the Ascension Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness who has worked tirelessly to operate the Emergency Command Center throughout the planning and recovery phases of this catastrophe. We also thank Parish President Cointment, parish leadership, Sheriff Bobby Webre and the Ascension Parish Police as well as the Donaldsonville Fire Department for their ongoing efforts to keep us safe and get us back to full operation throughout this event. Additionally, I wish to thank my Department of Public Works staff and their partnership with the Ascension Parish Public Works Department to not only service areas in the city, but those outside the city limits as well. I also want to show my appreciation for the local businesses who have continued to operate to serve our citizens. Let’s please not forget our local business owners who have been there for us throughout this event, much as they have been throughout the entire past year and a half serving us through the pandemic. There are many more people I know we will thank throughout the recovery of our city; but most importantly, I want to thank you, our citizens, for once again helping your neighbors and for your patience as we deal with this very difficult situation.

City Hall lobby is closed; however, we are taking phone calls to complete work orders. Please reach out to my staff during business hours at 225.473.4247 (ext. 1 or 4) or at 225.802.8215 after hours. Continue to visit our Facebook pages and website if you are able. We will continue to provide daily updates and will soon return to my Facebook live program.

May God’s graces be blessed on you, our city, and your family and friends today and every day; that is always my prayer.

Mayor Leroy J. Sullivan, Sr.
