Good morning!

Yesterday was a busy day in DONALDSONVILLE! There were over 800 donations given, and it continues this morning at the Pavilion. There are additional activities coming up.

Today, The distribution site is now operational in Donaldonville!  From 8am to 5pm at the Lemann Center/Pavilion, residents will receive tarps, water, and ice. Please enter through Clay Street. The line may extend into the ball park fields. We appreciate your patience.

The event is once again operated by the Louisiana National Guard, with support from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and AOHSEP. This program will continue as long as supplies last.

Also Ascension Parish OHSEP alerted our community that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin Operation Blue Roof to cover damaged roofs in Ascension Parish soon. Visit blueroof.us or call 1-888-766-3258.

We also posted a number of resources on our website for SNAP extended benefits and how you can access federal resources through FEMA. We encourage you to pre-register now! We have also posted information important to small business owners. Go to the City’s website at DONALDSONVILLE-la.gov for more information under the news and Economic Development Department links.

Today beginning at 11am, we also have a free water and jambalaya give away in Downtown Donaldsonville hosted by Judge Tamiko Francis Garrison and sponsored by The Sullivan Firm, Mayor Leroy J. Sullivan, Sr., Councilman Reginald Francis, Oliver Joseph, Donaldsonville Downtown Development District, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. It will run until supplies are gone. The pick up site is 214 Railroad Avenue. Enter on Railroad Avenue headed East (toward the River).

On Monday, September 6, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and the Ascension Parish Government will be providing food in Donaldsonville by donating 1500 cases of water and 1500 boxes of non-perishable food at the Frank Sotile, Jr. Pavilion on Thibaut Drive. Volunteers will begin distributing at 11:00 am on a first come-first served basis, while supplies last. Please use the same line up instructions as all other events.

During our daily briefing with Entergy, we were given information on plans to restore power. While there are a number of rumors surrounding exact dates, please know that Entergy personnel are doing everything they can to work with their contractors to get our city back up and running. Power should have begun to be restored as early as last night and reports are confirmed that this happened.

They will also attempt to reroute power from harder hit areas as a temporary solution, but that must be tested first, so we will keep you updated. We know you may see a home near you with power and you may not yet be on, so be aware that power is fed from different grids. If you have damage to a service line on your property or nearby, that might take more time. We continue to ask for their quick restoration, but we also know we have to be patient as the damage was severe in some places in our community.

Please continue to be kind to these servicemen. They struggle to locate food and many of them are sleeping in their trucks. This is taking all toll on everyone, so we continue to ask for your kindness and understanding. We are making progress on this.

I pray that we continue to come together and ask God to heal us and recover our community!
